Our Cuisine

Our cuisine is authentic Greek, based on traditional Naxian repices. After 27 years of operation, we still serve the same dishes that made us known when we first opened our tavern in the center of Halki village. The most characteristic area of the new restaurant Yannis is the big showcase with the meat and the 3 grills. All the meat we use is gathered from mountainous Naxos and is shown in the showcase.  Our philosophy is based on that: our customers should see, choose, order and watch the cook preparing the dish they asked for.

Yannis is a famous traditional tavern!

In general, the meat dishes enjoy a leading role in Yannis tavern. They are selected from local farms and stand out for their excellent quality. They are kept in the right conditions in open showcase – fridge and are always cooked in front of your eyes. With respect to the traditional cuisine of Naxos and in an effort to collect the best raw materials, we have our own fruit and vegetable gardens and vineyards to produce our raki and wine.

So, even for our pies included in our menu, we use our own production organic vegetables and herbs, as well as for the fresh salads. Don’t miss to try the spinach pie and the pepper pie!

Kontosouvli

It’s the trademark of Yannis restaurants and the delicacy that made us famous. “Kontosouvli” is used to describe a unique Greek meat delicacy. It’s all about large chunks of marinated pork that are skewered and secured on a spit and then slow roasted over an open charcoal pit. Kontosouvli is served in our restaurants on daily basis! Fine pork meat from mountainous Naxos is the basis for this delicious dish. The whole procedure or preparation takes place in front of your eyes, since Yannis has open grills and the customers can watch the cook preparing the “kontosouvli”.  However, there are some other secrets as well, such as the proper marinade, the balance of the scent, the right herbs and the grill of course. Special dishes!

The “Halki Special” with pork, sweet peppers, mushrooms and red beans is a typical local dish with a 60-year history! We cook it in the same way all these years and is actually one of the most characteristic of our menu. Our customers also prefer the “Gul” with the caramelized sausages and the fried feta cheese, as well as our “Rosto” with pork and sauce, a traditional recipe from the village of Apeiranthos.
